Extended partnership agreement between Tongji University and TU Darmstadt

A long-standing cooperation also for the future

On September 16th, TU Darmstadt welcomed a delegation of the Partner University Tongji, which is located in Shanghai. The long-standing cooperation has been recognized and the future cooperation was reaffirmed by the extension of the partnership agreement between the two universities. The delegation was headed by the newly elected Senate President of Tongji University, Professor Xianjin Yang. TU President Prof. Hans Jürgen Prömel welcomed the guests, together with Vice-President Ralph Bruder and the Representative of the Strategic Partnership, Prof. Peter Cornel.

After an assessment of the history of long-standing cooperation between the two universities, the priorities of future cooperation were discussed. In addition to the deepening the excellent cooperation in eight different departments, the cooperation in the field of research will be advanced in the future.

A joint application for completion funding of the Four-Years-Promotion "Strategic Partnership TU Darmstadt - Tongji"(which is ongoing until the end of 2016) by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the program "Strategic Partnerships and Thematic networks", funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to support closer research cooperations. The Representative of the Strategic Partnership, Prof. Peter Cornel, presented its long-standing cooperation with Tongji University in the field of wastewater technology. The internationalization coordinator of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Manfred Hampe, presented another successful cooperation: The double master program in automotive technology. This in autumn 2010 established program offers outstanding students from both universities the opportunity to complete a double degree Master in five semesters.

After an overview of the TU Darmstadt and the Rhine-Main region, the future cooperation was reaffirmed through the extension of the "Memorandum of Understanding" of the partnership agreement of both universities, which was signed by both Presidents.
